The Hilgelo is a recreational area for young and old, close to our eastern neighbors. The area has an extensive beach with water for swimming. The lake is surrounded by trees that provide protection from the sun. Great for cooling off and enjoying the sun during vacations. You can visit Beachclub MEER for a snack and a drink. The Winterswijk quarry is also known as the mosaic floor of the Netherlands. The quarry owes this to the varied soil structure. The quarry has a rich history and various special fossils have been found over the years. You can visit the quarry from the viewpoint on the Steengroeveweg. Swimming in the beach pool

The beach pool was built in the 1930s as a recreational pool. This pool was created as a work provision project during the crisis years. After being closed for years due to murky swimming water, the outdoor pool reopened in 2011. Lovely to cool off when the weather is warm.  The beach pool is located in the Winterswijk area.
